Jerusalem, Jun 30: An Israeli soldier was killed during ongoing military operations in northern Gaza, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Sunday.

Sergeant Yisrael Natan Rosenfeld, 20, a member of the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion under the 401st Brigade, lost his life during combat activities in the Jabalia area. According to Israel’s state broadcaster Kan, he was reportedly killed by an explosive device as troops advanced in demolishing structures—part of Israel’s ongoing effort to establish a buffer zone along Gaza’s northern edge.

The latest fatality brings the number of Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza since the beginning of June to 21. Since the war began in October 2023, the total number of Israeli military casualties has reached 880, based on official data.

Meanwhile, northern Gaza witnessed intense bombardment on Sunday. Gaza’s health authorities reported that at least 88 Palestinians were killed and 365 injured in Israeli strikes throughout the day.

Amid the renewed offensive, the Israeli military issued fresh evacuation orders, urging civilians in Gaza City and Jabalia to relocate to the coastal al-Mawasi zone for their safety.

According to figures released by Gaza’s health authorities, the Palestinian death toll from Israeli military actions since October has now surpassed 56,500. The ongoing conflict shows little sign of abating, with casualties continuing to rise on both sides.
