Bhopal, Jan 9: In a devastating incident, three minor girls, including a five-month-old, lost their lives after a fire engulfed their hut in Baroda village, Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district, on Wednesday. The village is located approximately 35 kilometers from the district headquarters.
According to the police, the blaze broke out while the family was boiling potatoes on a stove inside the hut. Tragically, the father of the girls, Govind Adivasi, was working near the hut, and their mother had stepped out just moments before the fire erupted.
The mother recounted to the police that she had gone about 200 meters away to speak to her husband when she noticed the hut suddenly consumed by flames. Both parents rushed to the scene and attempted to save their daughters, but the rapid spread of the fire made rescue efforts difficult.
Villagers also joined in, pouring water in an effort to extinguish the flames, but the fire spread too quickly. Police recovered the bodies of two sisters, Janvi (5) and Kirti (3), from the charred remains of the hut. The third child, a five-month-old toddler, was found alive but critically injured.
The infant was rushed to a hospital in Damoh and later referred to Jabalpur Medical College for advanced treatment. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries early Thursday morning.
Govind Adivasi informed the authorities that the exact cause of the fire remains uncertain, adding that the family’s mobile phone was also destroyed in the incident. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Expressing his condolences, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced financial assistance of ?2 lakh each for the family of the deceased girls. The chief minister shared his grief over the loss on social media and assured support to the grieving family.
Authorities are gathering evidence and working to uncover the full details of this heart-wrenching incident.
