Sukma, Jan 9: At least three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, January 9, as confirmed by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. The clash took place between security personnel and Naxals in the dense forests along the Sukma-Bijapur border.

The encounter involved multiple security units, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) CoBRA unit, specialized in jungle warfare. The exchange of fire lasted for several hours, leading to the elimination of the three Naxals.

In a separate operation, security forces discovered and neutralized Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Naxalites. These IEDs, disguised in empty beer bottles, were found in Murdanda village, under the jurisdiction of Awapalli Police Station in Bijapur district. The IEDs were successfully defused by a joint team of state police and CRPF’s 229 Battalion, preventing a potential attack.

This operation follows a tragic incident on January 6, when eight jawans from the DRG and a civilian driver lost their lives in an IED blast orchestrated by Naxalites in Bijapur district. The attack occurred while the personnel were returning from a joint operation in the region.
