BCCI postpones announcement of India’s Champions Trophy squad

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 11: The BCCI has delayed announcing India’s squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, which was originally expected this weekend. The new date for the squad reveal is January 19, giving the board more time to finalize the provisional list and align it with ICC guidelines.

The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, was also set to announce the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against England. While the Champions Trophy squad is delayed, the T20I team is expected to be revealed soon. The ODI squad, which will closely resemble the Champions Trophy lineup, will serve as valuable preparation for the tournament starting on February 19 in Pakistan.

Before finalizing the squads, the BCCI will conduct a review meeting with captain Rohit Sharma, coach Gautam Gambhir, and other officials to analyse recent performances, including the 1-3 Test series loss in Australia and a 0-3 ODI defeat to New Zealand at home.

The Champions Trophy squad will be submitted to the ICC by January 19, while changes will only be allowed under exceptional circumstances. The England series will serve as a final test for players ahead of the marquee event.
