Mapusa, Jan 14: Tukaram Shirodkar, a head constable attached to Mapusa police station, alleged harassment by senior officers and threatened to end his life. Following the release of a viral video in which Shirodkar claimed he would commit suicide from the Atal Setu bridge, Panaji police detained him and later released him after recording his statement.

The incident came to light when a video surfaced online showing Shirodkar standing on the Atal Setu bridge, alleging that a senior officer from Mapusa police station was harassing him. Acting swiftly, Panaji police located him on the bridge and admitted him to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for a medical examination before taking him to the police station for further questioning.

According to sources, Shirodkar inflicted injuries on his arm using a blade as part of his suicide attempt. He alleged that the persistent harassment from a senior officer drove him to take this extreme step. Shirodkar, who is currently on temporary deputation to the North District Reserve Line Force (NDRLF) since October 2024, stated in his video that he could no longer tolerate the mistreatment.

Senior officials have directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in Mapusa to submit a detailed report on the incident within two days. Shirodkar was released after his statement was recorded, and authorities are expected to investigate the allegations thoroughly.

This case sheds light on the stress and internal challenges faced by law enforcement personnel, prompting calls for systemic reforms to address such grievances.
