Ponda, Jan 26: In a tragic incident, 28-year-old Jagabandhu Dhaneshwar Nayak from Odisha took his own life after succumbing to financial losses in online gambling. Nayak, who had been working at a Kundaim plant, was residing in a rented room at Mardol.

The grim discovery was made by local panchayat member Rupesh Naik, who was alerted by residents about a foul smell coming from the hills near Veling. Upon investigation, Naik found Nayak’s decomposed body in a jungle area.

The Mardol police had received a missing person report on January 16, and upon examining the body, it was identified by a friend of the deceased. According to the police, Nayak had informed his family in Odisha during a video call about his gambling losses and asked them not to search for him.

After conducting an autopsy at the South Goa district hospital in Margao, the body was handed over to Nayak’s family for final rites.
