Mangaluru, Jan 26: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has instructed the district administration to take necessary steps to convert the historic "Collectorate Office" building, located next to the current Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city’s Bunder area, into a museum. The building, constructed during the British era, holds significant historical value.
On Sunday, January 26, the minister visited the old DC office and inspected the premises along with district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao.
After the inspection, they discussed the preservation of the building, which, despite being over 200 years old, remains structurally sound. Minister Byre Gowda suggested converting the building into a museum to safeguard its historical importance for future generations.
He also recommended forming a trust, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, to oversee the project, with the inclusion of prominent individuals. Additionally, the minister suggested the development of facilities such as a studio, an open stage, a small garden, and a walking track on the site.
Byre Gowda further emphasised that the government should manage the entire project, including maintenance and operations.
Present at the event were district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundurao, MLCs Ivan D’Souza, Manjunath Bhandari and Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, among others.
