Bantwal, Jan 5: In a startling incident, a quarrel between four friends ended in a brutal murder at Maripalla near Thumbay here on Thursday January 5 evening.

At around 5 pm, the four had a heated argument over some issue, and in the spur of the moment, three of them lost their cool and stabbed the fourth person to death.

The deceased is Nooruddin (45), a resident near Sujiru School, Maripalla. He was originally from Kasargod, and had been staying in a rented house here with his family for the past 13 years.

Naushad, Imran and Hafeez are the accused. All three are now in police custody. It is said that they surrendered before the police, but the police have not confirmed it.

A crowd gathered at the spot. Though they rushed Nooruddin to Thumbay hospital immediately, he could not be saved. The body has been shifted to Bantwal government hospital.

A black Maruti Zen belonging to Nooruddin was found parked at the place where the argument took place.

Though the exact reason for the quarrel is not yet ascertained, it is said that it was over some financial matter. Unconfirmed reports also suggested that the issue had to do with a drugs deal. Sources said that there were several police cases against Nooruddin.

Bantwal circle inspector Anil S Kulakarni, in-charge SI Ravishankar and other policemen arrived at the spot and investigations are on. A case has been registered in Bantwal rural police station.
