VHP demands Jaya Bachchan’s arrest over ‘dead bodies in river’ remark

Daijiworld Media Network – Prayagraj

Prayagraj, Feb 4: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for the arrest of Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan over her controversial remarks on dead bodies being dumped in the river following the Maha Kumbh stampede, which claimed over 30 lives.

VHP media in-charge Sharad Sharma accused Bachchan of spreading misinformation and sensationalism. “She should be arrested for making false and untrue statements. Maha Kumbh is a sacred event where faith, devotion, and salvation converge. The sentiments of crores of devotees are attached to this great ritual,” he said.

On Monday, Bachchan alleged that the Kumbh water bodies had become highly contaminated due to bodies being thrown into the river. “Where is the water most polluted right now? It’s in Kumbh. Bodies from the stampede have been dumped in the river, contaminating it,” she claimed.

She further criticized the administration, questioning the treatment of common pilgrims. “The real issues are being ignored. Common devotees are not getting any special treatment, and the claim that crores have visited is exaggerated. How can such a large crowd gather at one place at the same time?”

Several MPs have also slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led government for allegedly prioritizing VIPs over the safety of the general public, linking administrative lapses to the tragic stampede.

many belief systems, across religions, hold onto ideas of salvation, liberation, or an afterlife as the ultimate goal, often at the cost of fully engaging with life in the present. The practice of immersing bodies in the Ganga, or other rituals meant to ensure a better afterlife, reflects this deeply ingrained longing for transcendence beyond this life. Real salvation, might not be in some distant realm or posthumous reward but in how we live—with love, respect, and dignity, right here and now. If people focused more on kindness, self-awareness, and meaningful human connections rather than an abstract future state, the world would likely be a much better place. I think this longing for salvation is more about fear—of death, of the unknown—rather than true spiritual pursuit?
