Trump urges Musk to intensify federal job cuts amid backlash

Washington, Feb 22: US President Donald Trump has called on billionaire Elon Musk to take a more aggressive stance in downsizing the federal government, despite mounting criticism over mass layoffs and spending cuts.

“Elon is doing a great job, but I would like to see him get more aggressive,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Remember, we have a country to save, but ultimately, to make greater than ever before. MAGA!”

Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a Trump-created entity—has led sweeping job cuts across federal agencies, terminating tens of thousands of employees, from scientists to park rangers, particularly those on probationary status.

In the latest move, the US Defense Department will cut at least 5% of its civilian workforce starting next week. A judge recently denied a union plea to halt these mass firings.

Despite strong opposition and legal battles, Musk’s cost-cutting spree under DOGE continues to reshape the federal workforce, fueling both praise and protests.
