Margao, Mar 2: In a key development regarding the proposed private medical college at South Goa District Hospital, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday stated that he favors setting up a nursing college instead, citing faster implementation.

Speaking at a mega medical camp in Raia, Rane said former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar had already made provisions for a nursing college at the hospital, making it a more feasible option.

“I and the CM will be on the same page. The party leadership will also guide us in taking a decision in the best interests of the people,” Rane said.

He acknowledged his earlier preference for a private medical college but emphasized that all necessary formalities must be followed. “A nursing college can be established much faster. The file is already processed. But we will take everyone into confidence before making a final decision,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rane also spoke about the crackdown on pharmacies selling expired medicines. He revealed that the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) had sealed pharmacies in Margao and Ponda for violating norms.

“I have directed officials to suspend licenses of pharmacies selling expired medicines. Pharmacies must have qualified pharmacists, and we will ensure strict compliance in the interest of public health,” he stated.
