Goa cabinet reshuffle: Speaker Tawadkar’s remarks spark political buzz

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Mar 16: Goa Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Saturday stated that the decision on a Cabinet reshuffle rests solely with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. His remarks came just days after he previously suggested that changes in the Cabinet and its composition would be decided within a fortnight.

Speaking to reporters in St Cruz, Tawadkar confirmed that he had discussed the issue of certain ministers' alleged arrogance with the Chief Minister and even provided a list of names.

“Six ministers have grown arrogant and should be removed from the Cabinet,” Tawadkar had said in a recent interview with a news channel.

When questioned again on Saturday about his remarks, he reiterated his discussion with Sawant, adding, “Everyone knows which ministers are arrogant.”

Earlier this week, while addressing the media in his home constituency of Canacona, Tawadkar had mentioned that a Cabinet reshuffle would be finalized within the next fortnight. He also hinted that MLAs Nilesh Cabral, Digambar Kamat, Sankalp Amonkar, Delilah Lobo, and Michael Lobo might be considered for ministerial positions.

However, when pressed further about the issue in St Cruz, Tawadkar sought to deflect the focus, asserting that the final decision lies with the Chief Minister.

“The Chief Minister will determine who stays and who goes, as well as the timing of any changes,” he stated.

He also clarified his earlier comments, explaining, “The names I mentioned have been frequently appearing in the media, which is why I suggested they may be considered.”

Tawadkar’s unexpected public remarks on a potential reshuffle have caused a stir within the political landscape. While some ministers are reportedly unsettled by his comments, certain MLAs, who have long aspired for Cabinet positions, are hopeful about the possibility of change.

Adding further weight to the speculation, BJP State President Damu Naik recently submitted a report on the performance of ministers and MLAs to the party’s National General Secretary B.L. Santosh during his visit to Goa. This development has lent credence to the idea that a Cabinet reshuffle is imminent.

Although party insiders have long hinted at a likely reshuffle of Sawant’s team, and the Chief Minister himself has acknowledged the possibility on multiple occasions in recent months, the exact timing of the move remains shrouded in suspense.
