Chennai, Mar 20: A group of 13 Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were recently released from Sri Lankan custody, arrived in Chennai to a warm welcome from their families and local authorities.
The fishermen were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and engaging in fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters. Following diplomatic efforts by the Indian government, they were released and repatriated.

Upon their arrival, the fishermen expressed relief and gratitude, recounting the hardships faced during their detention. Fishermen associations and local leaders have reiterated their demand for a long-term resolution to the ongoing maritime dispute to prevent repeated arrests of Indian fishermen.
Officials confirmed that steps are being taken to ensure their safe return to their respective hometowns. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government continues to engage with the central government to strengthen diplomatic dialogues with Sri Lanka to safeguard the interests of Indian fishermen.
