Bengaluru, Mar 28: In a gruesome incident that has sent shockwaves across Bengaluru, a man from Maharashtra has been arrested in Pune for allegedly murdering his wife, dismembering her body, and stuffing it into a suitcase.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar, a resident of Doddakannammanahalli under the Hulimavu police station limits. Her husband, 36-year-old Rakesh Rajendra Khedkar, has been accused of the brutal murder.

According to police reports, the couple, originally from Maharashtra, had moved to Bengaluru a year ago and were living in a rented house near Hulimavu. The incident reportedly began with a domestic dispute that escalated into a violent attack, leading to Gauri’s tragic death. Police revealed that she was stabbed in the neck and abdomen before her body was folded and packed into a trolley bag.
The crime came to light when the house owner, sensing something amiss, alerted the police control room. Upon arrival, officers discovered the horrifying scene inside the couple’s home. Following an investigation, Bengaluru police traced Rakesh’s location using call data records and informed Maharashtra police. He was subsequently arrested in Pune and is currently in the custody of Pune police.
A team from Bengaluru’s Hulimavu police station has travelled to Pune to bring the accused back under a transit warrant. Once in Bengaluru, police will interrogate him to determine the exact motive behind the murder.
Sources indicate that after committing the crime, Rakesh had contacted the victim’s parents, who then alerted Maharashtra police. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the nature of the couple’s relationship and the events leading up to the murder.
This incident brings back memories of a similarly gruesome case in Bengaluru last year when a woman named Mahalaxmi was killed and her body was chopped into over 50 pieces by her partner. The accused in that case was later found hanging from a tree in Odisha.
