Mangaluru, Mar 28: Carmel School CBSE, Kotekar organized an enriching session on service learning for teachers, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the integration of education with community service. The session was graced by guest speaker Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC, principal of St Ann's College of Education (Autonomous), Mangaluru and was honored by the presence of Sr Pramila AC, principal of the school. The programme commenced with a prayer song, invoking blessings for a fruitful session. Tr Prithika extended a warm welcome to the gathering, setting the tone for an engaging and insightful experience.

Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC then took the stage, sharing her profound insights on service learning as an approach to education of the heart, head, and hands. She emphasized that service learning goes beyond traditional classroom teaching by integrating community service with academic study to enhance learning and strengthen local communities.

Throughout the session, she elaborated on various service-learning activities that can be effectively implemented in schools, such as: Organizing community outreach programms, involving students in environmental conservation efforts, conducting awareness campaigns on social issues, encouraging collaborative projects with local organizations and providing support to underprivileged sections of society.

She also shared her valuable experiences in service learning, highlighting its impact on students' personal growth, critical thinking skills, and sense of social responsibility. The session was highly interactive, allowing teachers to reflect on ways to incorporate service learning into their teaching methodologies.

The entire programme was compered by Tr Jyothi, ensuring a seamless flow of events. Towards the end, Tr Demcy delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC for her invaluable insights and to all participants for their active engagement.

The session served as an eye-opener for educators, inspiring them to integrate service learning into their teaching practices to cultivate among students attitude of compassion and make them socially responsible students.
