Bhopal, Mar 29: A woman police constable from Bhopal, who had filed a rape complaint against a lieutenant colonel stationed in Uttarakhand, was on the verge of suicide but was dissuaded in time and later lodged an FIR at the Mahila Thana (Women’s Police Station). On Friday, her statement was recorded in court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to the victim, the accused, identified as lieutenant colonel Varun Pratap Singh (48), had also deceived at least two other women in a similar manner. The women got in touch with each other, and during a conference call, they uncovered his web of deceit. The victim further revealed that the accused had created multiple fake social media profiles to lure and manipulate women.

Following the registration of the case, the victim alleged that Singh and his family were pressuring her to withdraw the complaint, even offering money to settle the matter.

As per the FIR filed on Thursday, the Madhya Pradesh police constable stated that she first met the accused in 2012 at an army canteen in Bhopal, when he was posted there. She alleged that under the false promise of marriage, he repeatedly raped her over the years.

The victim claimed that Singh systematically exploited his position to entrap women at various locations where he was stationed. While two other women have already reached out to the victim, it is feared that several more have fallen prey to his deceit, including one who is reportedly pregnant.

The case is currently under investigation.
