Delhi’s air quality improves, CAQM lifts GRAP-I restrictions

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 30: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has revoked the Stage-I restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the Delhi-NCR region with immediate effect, following a noticeable improvement in air quality.

The decision came after Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 153 on Saturday, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) bulletin, falling under the 'Moderate' category.

CAQM attributed this improvement to strong surface winds and favorable meteorological conditions. “The AQI has significantly improved due to better weather conditions. As per IMD/IITM forecasts, it is expected to remain in the ‘Moderate’ category in the coming days,” CAQM stated.

Considering the positive trend, the CAQM Sub-Committee unanimously decided to lift the Stage-I curbs across the NCR. However, agencies have been urged to continue dust mitigation measures, particularly for construction and demolition activities, as well as open areas, which could impact air quality in the upcoming months.

“The Sub-Committee will keep a close watch on the air quality scenario and take appropriate decisions based on further forecasts,” the statement added.
