Udupi, Mar 31: A 19-year-old woman, Jeena Meril, who was allegedly abducted by Mohammed Akram, is set to appear before the high court on April 4 in connection with a habeas corpus petition filed by her father, Godwin, a resident of Uddinahithlu, Kodavoor village. This information was disclosed by Udupi superintendent of police Dr Arun K.
It may be recalled, a case of abduction was registered at the Udupi town police station on March 20, following a complaint from Jeena’s parents. During the investigation, it was discovered that Jeena and Mohammed Akram had submitted an application for marriage at the Udupi sub-registrar's office on March 19. Additionally, both individuals had voluntarily left together and had written a letter requesting police protection, according to the SP.

On March 28, Jeena’s parents approached the High Court, filing a habeas corpus petition seeking her whereabouts. During the proceedings, Mohammed Akram and the legal representatives of the young woman assured the court that she would appear for a hearing on April 4. However, SP Dr Arun K clarified that the high court had not issued any specific directives to the police regarding the matter.
On the same day, March 28, Jeena’s mother, Merus Pushpalatha, held a press conference in Udupi, alleging that her daughter had been abducted by Mohammed Akram, who she claimed was already married. She further asserted that this was a case of ‘love jihad’ and expressed her disappointment over the police’s inaction despite her complaints. She also mentioned that they had taken the legal route by filing a habeas corpus petition in the high court.
