Ranchi, Apr 1: In a tragic incident, two locomotive drivers lost their lives and four others sustained injuries following a head-on collision between two goods trains in Jharkhand on Saturday night. The accident occurred near the Tori railway station in the Latehar district.

According to railway officials, the collision took place around midnight when one of the goods trains was stationed on the mainline, and the other train, running at speed, mistakenly entered the same track. The impact led to the derailment of several wagons, causing extensive damage to both trains.

Rescue operations were immediately initiated, with railway personnel and local authorities working through the night to extricate the injured from the wreckage. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, with two of them reported to be in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible signal failure or human error as the cause of the collision. A high-level inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident.

Rail traffic on the route was disrupted for several hours but has since been restored following the clearance of debris and repairs to the tracks.

Authorities have assured compensation for the families of the deceased and appropriate medical care for the injured. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
