Bengaluru, Apr 3: In a shocking twist to the gruesome murder case in Bengaluru, fresh details have emerged during the interrogation of techie Rakesh, who had allegedly killed his wife, dismembered her body, and stuffed it in a suitcase.

The horrific crime took place on March 27 at Dodda Kammanahalli near Hulimavu in Bengaluru. The accused, Rakesh, has been taken into police custody for a week as investigators probe the motive behind the brutal killing.

Rakesh, who was married for just two years, told police that he had no intention of killing his wife, Gauri Anil Sambekar. However, he claimed that he was facing constant harassment from her. "I was the one suffering abuse in this relationship," Rakesh reportedly stated during questioning.

After the murder, Rakesh tried to move the body discreetly by stuffing it into a suitcase. However, finding it too heavy to carry, he abandoned the plan and left the suitcase behind.

The accused, originally from Maharashtra, lived with his wife in Dodda Kammanahalli. Both were employed with private firms and had been working from home for the past year.

On the night of the incident, an argument broke out over work-related matters. In a fit of rage, Gauri reportedly threw a knife at Rakesh. He retaliated by using the same knife to kill her, slashing her throat and stomach before dismembering her body and placing it in a suitcase.

After switching off Gauri’s phone, Rakesh calmly had dinner at home. At around 11 pm, he planned to transport the body in his car but failed. He later hid the remains in the bathroom before fleeing the house.

The crime came to light 16 hours later when Rakesh himself called a neighbour and confessed to the crime. He initially misled Gauri’s family, claiming she had died by suicide. However, suspicions arose, and the house owner informed the police.

Tracking his movements, Hulimavu police alerted Pune police. Meanwhile, Rakesh had reached Shirwal police station in Pune, where he collapsed after consuming poison. He was immediately rushed to a hospital and treated.

On March 29, Bengaluru police presented him before the magistrate at Koramangala, following which he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. On April 1, the police sought his custody through an open court petition for further investigation.
