Mangaluru, Apr 5: ACP Dhanya Nayak of the south sub-division has been entrusted with the investigation into allegations of excess gold recovery in connection with a theft case under Ullal police station limits, police commissioner Anupam Agarwal said.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Agarwal stated, “The mother of one of the accused approached me with allegations. After a preliminary inquiry, I have handed over the responsibility of further investigation to ACP Dhanya Nayak. She is conducting the probe, and if the complaint is found to be genuine, appropriate action will follow.”

On June 28, 2024, a complaint was lodged regarding the theft of gold ornaments from a house in Ullal. During the investigation, Ullal inspector Balakrishna arrested a PUC student along with two minors and three of his friends, recovering the stolen gold ornaments.
However, on March 13 this year, the mother of one of the accused approached the police commissioner with allegations of corruption and fraud against then-Ullal inspector Balakrishna.
The complainant stated that the inspector summoned her to the station and demanded money, which she claims to have paid. Later, when her son was presented in court, approximately 50 grams of gold he had on him was allegedly seized by the police. The inspector reportedly assured her that the gold would be accounted for in the charge sheet and later recovered.
However, she alleged that the 50 grams of gold ornaments were not mentioned in the charge sheet submitted to the court, leading her to believe that the ornaments were misappropriated.
The investigation is currently underway.
