Bantwal, Jan 18: Two students suffered injuries after the stone slab of a minor bridge suddenly collapsed when they were walking on it. The incident occurred at Badanaje Devasyabail in Vittal Casba village on Tuesday January 16.

The injured have been identified as Suhail from Kolambe and Samsher from Nelligudde, both students of Vittal PU College. They were walking towards the college on Tuesday morning, when the incident occurred.

The minor bridge was built by laying stone slabs across a vented dam, which was constructed out of the then zilla parishat grant two decades back, for providing connectivity to some nearby villages like Kolambe, Dasarabettu, Kalleri, Nelligudde etc.

The bridge had become weak since long, and complaints made to officials and people’s representatives about this fact had fallen on deaf ears.

The impact of the accident would have been worse, even endangering the lives of the students, but for the fact that both landed on a heap of garbage upon falling down from the bridge.

Both of them were taken to a private hospital in Vittal by other students of the high school, where they are undergoing treatment, it is gathered.

Dont try to fool the public this bridge looks only a 100 year's old, how can it be two hundred year's old practically impossible. For looking at the state of the bridge, we have to consider a decade to be 100 year's not 10 year's. Bye the bye who are NRO's, Orphan's of Indian origin living abroad.

India is said to be the fastest developing countries but, there are still certain areas where the country is lagging behind. India's roads, bridges, public transportation, electricity failure, lack of water supply and many more….. But one of the striking underlying facts is the condition of the bridges. It is extremely essential that the bridges are well laid out and strong. Govt of India (Central or State) should look into this matter seriously.

Unfortunately the politicians are busy in building bungalows for themselves, busy in hiding crores rupees under their mattress, busy in imposing income tax on income of ordinary people including NRIS/NROs.

Golmaal hai bhai sab golmaal hai.
