Mangalore, Jan 19: Team Mangalore, city-based hobby group of kite flyers, on invitation from Tamquest Entertainments, Dubai, represented India at the Dubai International Kite Festival held recently at Dubai Outlet Mall, Dubai.

The kite festival was organised for the first time in UAE in connection with Basant and Lori Celebrations.

Sarvesh Rao, Arun Amin and Harish Kodiabail, who make up Team Mangalore, showcased some of the best kites flown by flyers of international fame around the world.

Their kites such as Kathakali, Yakshagana, Durga, Charlie, Owl and Pushpaka Vimana won appreciation from the people of Dubai. People including Indians residing at Dubai and neighboring cities like Sharjah gathered in large numbers. It was an annual gathering of all the kite lovers in the Middle East. The people from Karnataka, Gujarath, Rajasthan and Maharashtra and other states of India who are residing in Dubai also participated in this festival and enjoyed the kite flying, a unique tradition in India, and expressed that such events should be held in Dubai every year.

The Team conducted workshops for children to make Indian Fighter kites. The Team also distributed some kites to the children free of cost.

Team Mangalore has participated in various International Kite Festivals held at Canada, UK, France, Thailand, Korea and recently in Sri Lanka, where its new creation Pushpaka Vimana won accolades.

Last year in the Udaipur International Kite Festival the team had won the first place in the Unique Design Kite Category.

I had been to the festival and had an opportunity to personally witness the flair of Mangalorean talent. Indeed our kites were the best and it looked like a lot of hard work of Team M'lore has gone into making it. Wishing the team all the best and the festival was a great one where we all tried flying the kite after so many years. Good luck
