Bengaluru, Apr 15: A 38-year-old woman was brutally assaulted outside a mosque in Tavarekere, Bengaluru, after her husband lodged a complaint against her over a domestic issue. The incident, which took place on April 9, was caught on camera and widely circulated on social media, prompting swift police action and the arrest of six individuals.
The victim, Shabina Banu, a domestic worker, was summoned to the Jama Masjid in Tavarekere following a complaint by her husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer. He had alleged that Shabina was seen with her relative Nasreen and a male acquaintance, Fayaz, at their home. The three had reportedly gone on a brief outing to a hill in Bukkambudi on April 7 and returned later that evening.

Upon returning home and seeing the trio together, Shameer became agitated and subsequently approached the mosque committee with his concerns. The mosque summoned all three on April 9 for a discussion.
However, events took a violent turn outside the mosque. A group of men attacked Shabina with sticks, pipes, and clubs, and allegedly tried to strike her with stones in what appeared to be a murderous assault. The entire episode was captured on video, triggering outrage online and leading to immediate police intervention.
Shabina filed a formal complaint on April 11 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Those arrested in connection with the assault include Mohammad Niyaz (32), a driver; Mohammad Gauspeer (45), a scrap dealer; Chand Basha (35), a sugarcane juice vendor; Dastagir (24), a bike mechanic; Rasool T R (42), a fisherman at Bukkambudi Lake; and Inayat Ullah (51), a local resident.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was quickly formed under the leadership of Inspector Ravo, guided by Davangere SP Uma Prashant, with support from additional SPs Santosh Vijay Kumar and Manjunath, and Channagiri ASP Sam Varghese.
All six accused have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.
