Nebraska, Apr 20: All three people aboard a small aircraft were killed when it crashed into the Platte River near Fremont, Nebraska, on the evening of April 18, local authorities confirmed.
The aircraft, a Cessna 180, went down around 8:45 pm while flying along the Platte River south of Fremont in Dodge County. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
"The three occupants of the plane have been recovered and are confirmed deceased," the Dodge County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, adding that the victims’ identities are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations into the incident.
This tragedy is the latest in a spate of aviation-related accidents across the United States. While small plane crashes are not uncommon, recent high-profile incidents including a fatal tour helicopter crash in New York and a commercial airliner collision over the Potomac River earlier this year have intensified concerns over flight safety.
Despite such events, NTSB data indicates that aviation accidents, particularly those involving private aircraft, have generally declined from 2023 to 2024, with 2025 not yet showing an unusual spike in incidents.
