Washington, Apr 21: US vice-president JD Vance, along with his wife Usha Vance and their three children, embarked on a four-day visit to India, arriving Monday morning for important talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Air Force 2 is expected to land in New Delhi at 9:30 am, marking the start of a visit that will include stops in Agra and Jaipur.

This marks vice-president Vance’s first trip to India, coming amid ongoing discussions between the two nations about a potential trade deal, particularly in light of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on imports into the US. Currently, a 10% tariff is applied to India under a temporary 90-day pause on broader tariffs.

The Vances are traveling with their three young children Ewan, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, 2. Usha Vance, whose family hails from Andhra Pradesh, has not confirmed whether she will meet Indian relatives during the trip.

Vance is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Modi for a second bilateral engagement, following their first meeting in February in Paris. The visit also comes after Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, visited India in March, further strengthening ties between the two nations.

Vance’s visit is significant as he becomes the first sitting US vice-president to visit India in 13 years. The last such visit was by Joe Biden in 2013, during president Barack Obama’s administration.
