Mangalore: International Film Fest Offers Treasure Trove of Good Cinema

Mangalore, Jan 19: "It is a good gesture by educational institutions to support cinema with the aim of cultivating art sensitivity. Art movies also motivate human evolution as these movies mirror the current scenarios of the society," said G S Bhasker, cinematographer, after inaugurating the 'International Film Festival-2012' on Thursday January 19.

The fest has been jointly organized by Sahamatha Film Society, Mangalore, and SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore, at SDM College of Business Management Hall.

Bhasker said that though movies could not be considered as revolutionary, they do sensitize the human mind for better aspects of life.
 
Presiding over the inaugural ceremony, famous theatre personality Sadananda Suvarna said that a good turnout every time international film festivals are organized tells us that the people of Mangalore support such good movies. "The international film festival is one such arena where people are made to inculcate the habit of watching art movies," he said.

"Exaggeration of sex and crime in view of the commercial factor is not a good move. Film makers have a social responsibility. International film festival makes one aware that even now good regional movies are made and also differences between of movies of foreign nations and our nation can be seen," added Suvarna.
 
Dr Devraj K, principal of the college, was also present. On Thursday January 19, from 5.15 pm to 8 pm 'Kubhi Mattu Iyala' (Kannada) was screened. On Friday January 20, from 5.15 pm to 8 pm 'Me Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy' (Marathi) will be screened.

On Saturday January 21, Tamil movie 'Kanjeevaram' will be screened from 1.30 pm to 4 pm and 'The Violin' (Mexico) will be screened from 4 pm to 6 pm. Russian movie 'The Cuckoo' will be screened from 6 pm to 8 pm.
 
On Sunday January 22, Malayalam movie 'Adaminde Magan Abu' will be screened from 9.30 am to 12 pm. “II Postino' (Italy) will be shown from 12 pm to 2.30 pm while 'Baran' (Iran) will be screened from 2.30 pm to 5 pm.
 
After the valedictory ceremony from 5 pm to 6 pm, Hindi Movie 'Raincoat' will be screened till 8 pm.
