M'lore: National Conference by St Ann’s College  Focuses on Critical Thinking Among Nurses

Mangalore, Jan 20: A two-day national nursing conference ‘Sancon- 2012 - critical thinking, a challenge for nurses' organized by St Ann’s College of Nursing, Mulky was inaugurated at Shanthikiran hall, Bajjodi here on Friday January 20.

B V Kathyayini, principal of Dr M V Shetty College of Nursing, the guest of honour for the inaugural ceremony, addressing the gathering said that critical thinking is nothing but thinking in own  way which is important in nursing profession.

She pointed out that it is the need of the hour to question ourselves. Only during such conferences, workshops, nurses come together which hindered nursing professionals from taking collective decision. The topic of the conference ‘critical thinking’ denote thinking is inseparable from profession, failure to think leads failure in delivering the best in nursing profession, she added.

Sr Gilbert, president, Trained Nurses Association of India, and principal, San Joe College of Nursing, Kerala, the chief guest on the occasion said that critical thinking makes ourselves to pose questions on professional approaches, tolerance for other’s views and constant sensitivity could also be achieved by thinking effectively, she said and added professional accountability and creativity could be inculcated from critical thinking. She informed that the most awaited hearing on pay scale revision for nurses in private sector will be taken up by the Supreme Court today.

Eric C Lobo, chairman, St Ann’s Group of Institutions, presided over the programme. Professor Sr Jacintha D’Souza, organizing chairperson, Sudha Maheshwari, organizing secretary, Fathima Violet, Maria Pinto, principal among others were present.

    Nursing is a noble profession which requires not only good training, but also a spiritual power. I am happy St. Anns College of Nursing is doing a commendable job in this direction. Congrats Mr. Eric and team.
