Jaipur, Apr 28: Rajasthan continues to reel under an intensifying heatwave, with the mercury soaring dangerously across several districts. The Meteorological Department has sounded a fresh warning, predicting a further rise in temperatures in the coming days.
Barmer on Sunday emerged as the hottest city, recording a sweltering 46.1 degrees Celsius — four degrees above the seasonal average. Meteorological officials confirmed that the recent western disturbances, which had offered brief relief, have now dissipated, paving the way for harsher weather.
A red alert has been issued for the Jodhpur division and parts of western Rajasthan, where heatwave conditions are expected to tighten their grip. Adding to the discomfort, hot nights have been forecast for April 28 and 29.
Dry weather prevailed across most parts of Rajasthan, even as Sangaria in Hanumangarh district recorded the minimum temperature at a relatively pleasant 19.9 degrees Celsius.
As per observations recorded at 8:30 am on Monday, average humidity levels hovered between 20 and 50 percent in different parts of the state. The weather centre has cautioned that some areas of eastern Rajasthan could also experience heatwave conditions on April 29 and 30.
Officials said maximum temperatures could rise by another 2-3 degrees Celsius, likely pushing daytime highs to between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius, particularly in parts of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions.
However, a slight respite may be on the horizon. Early May could bring stormy and rainy conditions, potentially easing the sizzling temperatures for a brief period.
On Sunday alone, 14 cities across Rajasthan recorded maximum temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius. After Barmer, Jaisalmer followed with 45.5 degrees Celsius, while Jodhpur recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius, and Bhilwara hit 42 degrees Celsius.
Across western Rajasthan, almost all districts witnessed temperatures soaring beyond the 40-degree mark, while in the eastern parts, only four districts escaped the extreme heat.
Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions, remain indoors during peak hours, and stay hydrated as the scorching sun shows no sign of relenting anytime soon.
