Mumbai, Jun 28: Actress Shefali Jariwala was laid to rest with Hindu rites at Oshiwara Crematorium in Mumbai on Friday, where her husband Parag Tyagi, father, and brother performed her final rituals. The same cremation ground had witnessed the funeral of actor Sidharth Shukla in 2021, a poignant coincidence as Shefali had shared screen space with him in Bigg Boss 13.
A somber procession saw emotional moments as Parag Tyagi and Hindustani Bhau—her Bigg Boss co-contestant and rakhi brother—carried her mortal remains. Hindustani Bhau, visibly heartbroken, described Shefali as “more than a sister… she was like a daughter,” while speaking to the media outside Cooper Hospital, where she was declared brought dead on June 27 after a suspected cardiac arrest.
Industry colleagues and friends gathered at the crematorium to pay their final respects to the 42-year-old actress, best known for her appearance in the music video Kaanta Laga and her stint in reality television.
Meanwhile, questions surrounding the suddenness of her death have prompted official scrutiny. Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Affairs, Yogesh Kadam, confirmed that a full investigation is underway.
“The police have begun collecting all necessary details. If there’s even a hint of foul play, we will probe every angle thoroughly. It’s premature to speculate, but if any complaint arises, we’ll act accordingly,” Kadam told reporters.
Police have reportedly recorded statements from eight individuals so far, including family members, domestic staff, and a doctor from Bellevue Hospital, where she had also been taken earlier. While preliminary reports suggest a heart attack, the official cause of death will be confirmed following the postmortem examination.
As fans and friends mourn the untimely loss, the industry awaits clarity on what led to the tragic demise of a much-loved television personality.
