Washington, May 7: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday commented on the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following India’s targeted strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). While acknowledging the Indian action, Trump expressed his hope that the situation would be resolved swiftly.
“It’s a shame,” Trump said during a White House interaction with reporters. “We just heard about it as we were walking through the doors of the Oval... They've been fighting for a long time... I just hope it ends very quickly.”

The President’s remarks came after the Indian military launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali national.
The Indian Embassy in Washington DC confirmed that National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval briefed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as the National Security Adviser, on the details of the operation.
“India’s actions have been focused and precise,” the embassy statement read. “They were measured, responsible, and designed to be non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani civilian, economic, or military targets have been hit. Only known terror camps were targeted.”
The embassy further noted that India had gathered credible evidence linking Pakistan-based terrorists to the attack, including survivor testimony and technical inputs. It reiterated that despite this, Pakistan had not acted against the perpetrators and instead had denied any involvement, resorting to allegations of false flag operations against India.
The Indian Army had earlier reported that nine sites were hit as part of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ with the primary focus being terrorist infrastructure in PoK and Pakistan. In a tweet, the army confirmed that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, underscoring that India’s actions were designed to be focused and measured.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed that Indian missile strikes targeted Kotli, Bahwalpur, and Muzaffarabad and described them as “cowardly” amid heightened tensions following the attack in occupied Kashmir.
This fresh round of hostilities has deepened the already volatile situation between the two nuclear-armed nations. With Pakistan yet to respond to India’s actions, the international community continues to watch the developments closely.
