Bathinda, May 7: In a tragic incident that unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, an unidentified aircraft crashed and burst into flames in Aklian Kalan village of Bathinda district, claiming one life and leaving nine others injured.

The deceased has been identified as Govind, a farm labourer hailing from Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. The crash occurred around 2:00 am in a harvested wheat field, approximately 500 metres away from the nearest residential area, averting what could have been a larger tragedy.

Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft was flying at an unusually low altitude late Tuesday night. Several farm labourers, who were resting near the local grain market, noticed the aircraft moments before it plummeted into the fields and exploded.

“As we rushed towards the site, there was a loud blast from the wreckage,” said one of the eyewitnesses. The sudden explosion is believed to have caused the fatality and multiple injuries.

Emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the site. The injured were rushed to the nearby civil hospital for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable, though a few have sustained burn injuries.

Local authorities, along with defence and aviation officials, have cordoned off the area and initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash and the identity of the aircraft.

Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a military or unmanned aircraft but stated that a detailed probe is underway.
