New Delhi, Aug 14: India's wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation eased marginally to 9.78 per cent in July 2026, compared to 9.87 per cent in June, according to preliminary data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday.
The WPI for all commodities stood at 110.0 in July, against 110.2 in June. Despite the marginal moderation, wholesale inflation remained elevated, with price pressures varying across major sectors.

Inflation in the fuel and power segment fell significantly to 20.05 per cent in July, from 27.41 per cent in June.
However, inflation in primary articles increased to 8.52 per cent, compared to 7 per cent in June. Inflation in manufactured products also rose to 8.29 per cent, from 7.48 per cent in the previous month.
The WPI Food Index inflation increased to 6.65 per cent in July, from 6.14 per cent in June, indicating continued pressure on food prices.
Food articles, non-food articles, basic metals, food products and chemical products contributed significantly to wholesale price pressures during the month.
PHDCCI CEO and Secretary General Dr Ranjeet Mehta said the immediate outlook remained one of elevated but potentially moderating wholesale inflation. He pointed to global crude and commodity prices, metal and chemical costs and weather-related disruptions as key risks.
The government also revised the final WPI figure for May 2026. The final index was revised to 110.1, from the provisional estimate of 109.9.
May's wholesale inflation rate was also revised upwards to 9.88 per cent, compared to the earlier estimate of 9.68 per cent.
