New Delhi, May 8: In a significant show of unity, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level all-party meeting on Thursday, convened a day after India carried out major cross-border strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under the codename Operation Sindoor.
The purpose of the meeting, called by the central government, was to brief Opposition leaders on the strategic objectives, outcomes, and future preparedness following one of the most extensive military operations against cross-border terrorism in recent years.
The meeting saw participation from senior leaders across the political spectrum, including Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and several others.

During the briefing, Rajnath Singh outlined the rationale behind the strikes, the intelligence inputs that led to the decision, and the military’s readiness for any future contingencies. The Defence Minister emphasized that the operation was targeted specifically at terror infrastructure posing an imminent threat to Indian security.
Across party lines, leaders expressed unreserved support for the Armed Forces and the government’s decisive action.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the media post-meeting, stating, “All political parties unequivocally praised the Armed Forces and supported the government’s measures to counter terrorism. There was unanimous agreement that national security must remain above politics.”
Highlighting the bipartisan spirit, Rijiju added, “Every party demonstrated political maturity. There was a clear consensus: terrorism must be confronted with a united national stance.”
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi echoed this sentiment, saying, “We fully back the government’s action.”
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, affirmed the Congress party’s support: “We were briefed on Operation Sindoor and we conveyed our complete solidarity with the government.”
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi also commended the military’s execution of the strikes and urged the government to escalate diplomatic efforts. He specifically called for international recognition of The Resistance Front (TRF), the group claiming responsibility for the recent Pahalgam attack, as a terrorist organisation.
“We must begin a concerted diplomatic push to have TRF designated a global terrorist group by the United Nations Security Council. This is the time to also engage the United States for its support in this effort,” Owaisi stated.
The unified response from across the political aisle marks a rare but critical moment of consensus in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.
