Washington, May 10: In a major development, US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ‘full and immediate ceasefire’ following days of heightened tensions between the two nations. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence."
The ceasefire agreement comes after India had been responding to a series of drone attacks from Pakistan, successfully intercepting most of them with its air defense systems.

This move marks a significant shift in the escalation of the India-Pakistan conflict, which had seen increasing military actions in recent days. Earlier, US vice president JD Vance had commented on the conflict, acknowledging the risks involved but stated that the US would not intervene directly, emphasizing that it was "fundamentally none of our business."
On May 7, India had launched 'Operation Sindoor' in retaliation to a Pakistan-backed terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people. This operation targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
