Patna, May 16: On the eve of World Hypertension Day, city doctors raised alarm over a sharp rise in hypertension among youth, blaming poor diet, stress, sedentary lifestyles, and lack of sleep.
At an awareness event on Friday, senior physician Dr Diwakar Tejaswi called hypertension a “silent killer” and urged adults over 30 to get regular BP checks. “It causes serious damage to the heart, kidneys, brain and eyes before symptoms appear,” he warned.
AIIMS-Patna’s Dr Sanjeev Kumar noted growing cases among those in their 20s and 30s due to increasing academic and job-related stress. “Avoid fried food, reduce salt, and exercise regularly,” he advised.
Highlighting the ‘four S’ causes stress, sedentary habits, sugar, and sleep loss IGIMS professor Dr Sheil Avneesh said youth are drawn to high-sodium junk food, risking serious complications like stroke, kidney disease and heart attacks.
Doctors stressed that lifestyle changes and regular health checks are key to prevention.
