Dombivli, May 25: A 15-year-old girl from Dombivli, Maharashtra, was rescued after being held captive for two months, during which she was repeatedly assaulted, forced to terminate a pregnancy, and coerced into prostitution, police officials revealed on Sunday.

The victim's mother, a food vendor, had previously come in contact with the main accused, a spice seller known to the family. Following a dispute with her mother after her Class X exams, the girl left home and was lured by the accused into captivity.

During this period, the man allegedly confined and sexually abused her, leading to pregnancy. He then facilitated an abortion through another individual. Subsequently, the girl was kept at a couple's residence where she was forced into prostitution.

The victim's family, unaware of her whereabouts, was misled by the accused who falsely claimed she had been seen in the city but was unwilling to return. After two months, the family approached police, prompting a rescue operation in a rural area of Dombivli.

Police have arrested four individuals, including a woman, believed to have been involved in the crime. However, the main accused remains at large. The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Suhas Hemade confirmed the ongoing search for the prime suspect and stressed that police are committed to bringing all involved to justice.
