Kolkata, Jun 1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being "pained" by the success of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces’ strike that destroyed terror bases deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.
Speaking at a rally at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Shah said over 100 terrorists were killed in the strike, but Banerjee opposed it, describing it as “politically motivated.”
Shah alleged that Banerjee’s reaction undermined the sentiments of "mothers and sisters in the country," especially after a terror attack in Pahalgam in April that claimed the lives of West Bengal residents. “Our Prime Minister came to West Bengal after the successful Operation Sindoor, but she made an undesirable political comment,” he said.

Shah further accused Banerjee of supporting infiltration by refusing to allocate land for BSF border fencing, claiming she wanted illegal infiltration to continue for political gains. He warned that any future threats from across the border would be met with a “fitting reply.”
Additionally, Shah pledged that if the BJP wins the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, those responsible for killing BJP workers would be brought to justice. He also criticized the Trinamool Congress government for alleged corruption and mishandling of communal riots.
The row over Operation Sindoor comes amid heightened political tensions between the BJP and TMC, with both parties preparing for upcoming electoral battles in the state.
