New Delhi, Jun 3: In what is being seen as a high-stakes meeting amid heightened national security sentiments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over a significant session of the Union Council of Ministers on June 4. This will be the first such gathering since the launch and successful execution of India’s military offensive, 'Operation Sindoor'.
Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor was a precision strike mission targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The offensive was carried out in direct response to the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in April, which left 26 innocent tourists dead. Indian Armed Forces executed the operation with tactical accuracy, destroying key terror infrastructure while keeping civilian casualties to a minimum. The operation also included counteroffensives on Pakistani military installations, most notably their air bases, underlining India's resolute stance on national security.
Tomorrow’s ministerial meet is expected to begin with a comprehensive briefing on the planning and outcomes of Operation Sindoor. Sources suggest the Prime Minister will also use the occasion to align the Council’s focus with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s broader narrative ahead of the first anniversary of the Modi government’s third term.
With discussions anticipated to span national security, economic revival, diplomatic outreach, and key flagship programmes, the meeting will serve as a critical touchpoint for assessing ongoing policies. The Council of Ministers traditionally meets once every quarter, but this particular session carries added significance given the geopolitical context and the high public impact of the recent military strikes.
Prime Minister Modi has frequently reiterated that India will respond to terrorism with unflinching resolve. Describing Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s counter-terror doctrine, he asserted that it represents a "new normal" in dealing with cross-border threats.
