Mumbai, Jun 6: In a shocking incident onboard the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla)-Nanded Express, a 50-year-old Mumbai-based doctor lost part of his arm while trying to save his wife from a robber who attempted to snatch her handbag.

The couple, Dr Yogesh Deshmukh and Dr Deepali Deshmukh, were travelling with their nine-year-old daughter when the robbery occurred between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup, just 15 minutes after the train departed Kurla on Wednesday.

As the robber tried to snatch Dr Deepali’s handbag, she resisted. In the struggle, she was dragged towards the coach’s open gate. Her husband, who was resting on the upper berth, immediately rushed to help but in the attempt, both fell off the moving train.

While Dr Deepali sustained bruises, Dr Yogesh's arm was severely injured and crushed under the train. Fortunately, the train had begun to slow down by then, and the robber escaped by jumping off with the stolen bag.

No railway security personnel were present in the coach at the time. The couple tried to reach the police helpline but struggled due to uncertainty about their exact location. A tempo driver passing by noticed the couple seeking help and rushed them to a nearby private hospital.

Their daughter was safely disembarked at Kalyan, and railway authorities were alerted. The Railway Police have filed a case against unidentified persons and are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the accused.
