Mangalore, Jan 25: Ramakrishnan K, intelligence officer working in the regional unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), has been conferred with the Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificate for Specially Distinguished Record of Service on the occasion of Republic Day–2012.

Ramakrishnan is a rank holder in MSc (Statistics) and BEd (Mathematics) from Calicut University.  He is the son of V K Narayan Nair, a retired teacher and Kodoth Shanthamma, residents of Pilicode in Kasargod district.

He joined the customs and central excise department as upper division clerk in 1994 and was promoted as tax assistant in 2000.  He was further promoted as inspector during 2002 and presently works as intelligence officer in DRI here.

Ramakrishnan excelled in gathering intelligence in high profile commercial frauds as well as anti-smuggling.  His investigative skills are exemplary.  He has displayed all round skills and abilities required for detection of cases and bringing it to a logical end, right from the initial stage of intelligence collection to its culmination in issuing a show-cause notice and settlement of the case. 

Ramakrishnan has played a major role in recovering a revenue in excess of Rs 958 lac for the exchequer in a series of cases involving import / export frauds and money laundering.  He has played a vital role in the detection of various cases booked by DRI pertaining to smuggling and commercial fraud.
