Mumbai, Jun 13: Aviation industry experts on Friday stressed the need to avoid speculation and wait for the outcome of a thorough investigation into the tragic crash of the London-bound Air India Dreamliner in Ahmedabad.

The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, carrying 242 people, crashed into a medical college complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, killing 241 onboard in one of the worst air disasters in India. Only one person survived. The aircraft belonged to Air India, owned by the Tata Group.

“This is the first instance of a Dreamliner being involved in a crash,” said Jitendra Bhargava, former executive director of Air India. “Despite past controversies, the aircraft has served the industry well. We should refrain from speculating and wait for an objective investigation to reveal the actual cause.”

He emphasized that aviation authorities would follow standard procedures, as with any crash, and added, “Whether it was a bird hit, technical fault, or human error — let the investigation bring clarity.”

Echoing the sentiment, aviation expert Sarosh Damania said, “Initial reports suggest the aircraft descended right after takeoff and crashed. But until we get the full investigation report, especially the black box data, we must not jump to conclusions.”

He noted that the Dreamliner is a modern aircraft packed with advanced sensors and automation systems, saying, “The black box will provide critical data about flap positions, engine performance, and pilot actions. Only then can we understand what went wrong.”

Both experts called the incident extremely unfortunate and urged the public and media to avoid assumptions until the findings from official aviation authorities are released.
