Panipat, Jun 17: In a shocking incident that has rocked Haryana, a model identified as Sheetal Choudhary, also known as Simi, was found murdered, her throat slit and body recovered from a canal in Kharkhoda, Sonipat. Police investigations have led to the arrest of her boyfriend, Sunil, a married man with two children, who has confessed to the gruesome act.
According to the police, Sheetal had travelled to Ahar village in Panipat on Saturday for an album shoot. That night, Sunil arrived unexpectedly to meet her. Around 10:30 pm, he took her into his car and the two allegedly consumed alcohol. An argument erupted soon after, escalating into violence. At 1:30 am, Sheetal managed to make a video call to her sister, Neha, and pleaded for help, saying she was being beaten. Soon after, her phone was switched off, and she could not be reached again.
Sunil, in a bid to destroy evidence, stabbed Sheetal multiple times and dumped her body and the car into a canal near Panipat. The next day, the vehicle was recovered, but Sheetal was missing. Sunil, meanwhile, admitted himself to a hospital in Panipat, feigning an accident and claiming that he had survived after his car fell into the canal, while Sheetal drowned.
The truth surfaced on Monday when police recovered a woman’s throat-slit body nearly 80 km away in a canal in Kharkhoda. The body was identified as Sheetal’s through distinctive tattoos on her hand and chest. Multiple stab wounds were also observed, confirming the brutal nature of the crime.
During sustained interrogation, Sunil confessed to murdering Sheetal. Police believe the motive may have been linked to a confrontation after Sheetal rejected his proposal for marriage upon discovering that he was already married with two children. The two had known each other for six years and had met while Sheetal was working at Sunil’s hotel in Karnal.
Tragically, Sheetal herself was married and had a five-month-old child. Her body has been sent for postmortem as police continue their investigation into the motive and sequence of events leading to the murder.
