Rampur, Jun 17: In a shocking incident that has left the village of Dhanpura in utter disbelief, a young man who was to be married on June 16 was brutally murdered just a day before his wedding. The tragic incident unfolded on June 15 in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district.

According to Jitendra Singh, Circle Officer of Rampur City, the accused, identified as Saddam – a resident of the groom's native village Dhanpura – was taken into custody on Monday morning in connection with the murder of the groom-to-be, Nihal.

The case took a dramatic turn when, during the recovery of Nihal’s mobile phone from the accused, Saddam reportedly snatched a pistol from a police constable and attempted to flee. Acting swiftly, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotwaliganj police station opened fire in self-defense, injuring Saddam. He was immediately admitted to the hospital and is currently under police watch.

“A mobile phone belonging to the deceased Nihal has been recovered. Legal procedures are underway,” confirmed CO Jitendra Singh during a press briefing on Monday.

The motive behind the killing is still under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest the possibility of a love affair between the accused and the bride-to-be, which may have triggered the murder. However, police officials have not confirmed this angle and stated that the matter is still being probed.

Nihal, the victim, was preparing for his wedding scheduled for the following morning. His death has cast a pall of gloom over the entire village, turning what was supposed to be a joyous celebration into a heart-wrenching tragedy.

The Rampur police have assured a thorough investigation and stringent action against those involved.
