Reliance defence bags Rs 600 cr export deal with Germany’s Rheinmetall

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 25: Reliance Infrastructure-promoted Reliance Defence Ltd has secured a Rs 600 cr export order from German defence giant Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, marking one of the largest such deals in India’s high-tech ammunition sector.

The order follows a recent partnership agreement signed between Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence and Rheinmetall AG to supply artillery shells and explosives from a new facility planned in Maharashtra.

“This major order highlights the strength of our strategic partnership with Rheinmetall and reinforces our role as a key player in the global defence supply chain, especially in Europe,” Reliance Defence said in a statement.

The deal also boosts Reliance Defence’s ambition to become one of India’s top three defence exporters. The firm is setting up an integrated manufacturing hub under the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC) initiative at the Watad industrial area in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra — set to be India’s largest greenfield private defence project.

Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, hailed the partnership as a sign of the company's strong commitment to India under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Anil D Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Group, called the collaboration “a defining milestone for India's private defence manufacturing sector,” bringing cutting-edge global technology to the country.
