Mandya, Jun 28: In a historic development, the lifeline of Karnataka’s farmers — the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir — is set to reach full capacity in the month of June for the first time since its construction in 1931. As of now, the water level in the dam stands at 121 feet, just 3 feet short of full capacity. Officials anticipate the reservoir will be completely filled by June 29.
To mark the occasion, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will offer the ceremonial bagina to the river Cauvery on June 30 at 11 am, for the fourth time in his tenure. He had earlier offered bagina in 2013, 2014, and 2024, paying tribute to the revered river.

The early filling of the reservoir is attributed to bountiful monsoon rains in the Cauvery catchment areas. The phenomenon has brought immense cheer to farmers, as it is the first time in the 94-year history of the KRS dam that it is reaching full capacity in June itself.
The KRS reservoir, located in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district, is crucial for irrigation and drinking water supply in several parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The ceremony will be attended by prominent dignitaries including deputy chief minister and water resources minister D K Shivakumar, union minister for Steel and Heavy Industries and Mandya MP H D Kumaraswamy, and agriculture minister and district in-charge N Cheluvarayaswamy, among others. The event is expected to be a major milestone for water management and agricultural prospects in the region.
