New Jersey, Jun 29: A 24-year-old Indian woman who had recently arrived in the United States for an arranged marriage has been reported missing, police in Lindenwold, New Jersey said on Thursday.
The woman, identified as Simran Simran, landed in New Jersey on June 20. Surveillance footage captured her outside a location in Lindenwold, appearing to check her phone and wait for someone. Officers noted that she did not seem to be in distress at the time.
Simran was reported missing five days later, on June 25. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have travelled under the pretext of marriage, possibly to obtain free airfare to the US, according to reports cited by The New York Post.
Police said Simran does not speak English and has no known relatives in the US. Her only means of communication was an international phone that works solely on Wi-Fi. Authorities have so far been unable to reach any family members in India.
“At this time, there are no known family members in India to contact regarding her possible whereabouts,” Lindenwold Police stated, as quoted by Patch News.
Simran is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing around 68 kg, with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white t-shirt, black flip-flops, and diamond-studded earrings.
