Bantwal, July 8: Journalists' socially responsible writings have contributed significantly to resolving many issues in rural areas, said P Jinaraj Ariga, president of the school development and monitoring committee of the high school section of the government pre-university college, Kawalapadur.
He was speaking after inaugurating a media awareness workshop titled 'A conversation with students by journalists', organised on Tuesday in the college auditorium as part of Press Day celebrations by the Bantwal taluk working journalists' association.

He said journalists play an important role in rural development and added, "May your efforts continue to help address more rural problems in the days ahead. Let your work promote good causes and benefit the public."
Prashanth Punjalakatte, president of the Bantwal taluk working journalists’ association, presided over the event.
High school head teacher Sheikh Adam Saheb said, “While teachers correct students, journalists correct society. Along with education, it is essential for children to understand the role of media and news. Journalists are doing this duty with dedication, and celebrating Press Day through a dialogue with students has added meaning to the occasion.”
On the occasion, journalist Sandeep Salyan spoke on ‘Around newspapers’, journalist Harish Mambadi addressed ‘Media and opportunities’, and journalist Mounesh Vishwakarma spoke on ‘Education and theatre’.
In the interactive session that followed, students highlighted several issues faced in rural areas to the journalists.

Journalists Kishore Peraje, Vishnugupta Punacha, Abdul Rahiman, and Chandrashekhar Kalmale supported the programme.
