Mumbai, Jul 17: In a late-night aviation alert on Wednesday, an IndiGo Airbus A320neo (VT-IJB), operating a scheduled Delhi-Goa flight, made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, after one of its engines reportedly developed a technical malfunction mid-air.
The flight, which took off from Delhi at around 8:00 PM, was safely diverted to Mumbai after the pilot detected the engine issue. Following standard operating procedures, a full emergency was declared at Mumbai Airport, and the aircraft touched down safely at 9:52 PM, averting any untoward incident.

According to sources, the pilot transmitted a 'Pan-Pan-Pan' message—an aviation signal used to indicate an urgent situation that does not pose an immediate danger to life—before proceeding with the landing. All passengers and crew were reported safe.
In a statement, IndiGo confirmed the technical snag, stating, “A precautionary landing was made in Mumbai following detection of an engine malfunction. The aircraft is currently undergoing technical checks and will be back in operation after clearance.” The airline also arranged an alternative aircraft to ferry the stranded passengers to Goa.
This incident comes just days after a SpiceJet flight from Pune to Delhi was delayed by over nine hours due to a technical issue, highlighting growing concerns over mid-air mechanical snags in domestic aviation.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and a detailed technical inspection is underway to determine the cause of the engine failure.
