Panaji, Jul 17: In a major step to bolster the state’s electricity security, the Goa Electricity Department on Wednesday signed a crucial power purchase agreement (PPA) with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). The agreement enables Goa to draw power from the NTPC’s Sipat Stage-III thermal power station in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes represented Goa in formalizing the agreement during a ceremony held at the department's office in Panaji.

“This agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening Goa’s power infrastructure and securing long-term, reliable electricity supply for the state,” stated a press release from the Union Ministry of Power. “It also underscores NTPC’s steadfast commitment to supporting India’s energy needs through sustainable and dependable power generation.”

Goa, which currently does not have any power generation facilities of its own, relies entirely on the central grid for electricity supply. The new agreement with NTPC is expected to enhance stability and ensure uninterrupted power for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers across the state.
